About the World
This page contains some info about the world that the Outcasts setting takes place in. There are also a few other pages linked here that you can visit for some extra details.
Fundamentals
The most basic components that make up the world are the six energies. Five of these are "elemental" energies: air, earth, water, life, and crystal. The sixth, space, is the "fundamental" energy, which carries the other energies and gives the world form and dimension. Quantities of each elemental energy can be found flowing freely through space or bound together with the other elements to form physical objects. Every object is made from different proportions of each elemental energy: living beings are formed mostly from life energy, rocks mostly from earth energy, and so on.
Energy cannot be directly manipulated in its raw form under most circumstances. Extremely energy-dense objects are an exception to this rule, as they can cause space to break down around them and disrupt nearby energy in unpredictable ways. Forming entirely new energy, however, is possible only for the deities - the original creators of the world. There are six deities in total, each one with total power over one type of energy. More information about the deities and the world's origin can be found on this page: ORIGIN
Inhabitants
The structure of life does not follow traditional laws of biology. Living things may look and act like animals or plants, but they have no innards or orifices - their bodies are more like sculptures, given mobility and thought by life energy. Lifeforms vary wildly in their shape and material, with no two looking exactly the same, but they do tend to fall into one of a few distinct categories: Flora (sessile, plantlike beings), Forma (cooperative humanoids), and Fauna (varied, often with strange properties). However, these distinctions can be blurry, and some lifeforms may have traits from more than one category. Some of the unique traits of each category are detailed on this page: LIFEFORMS
Life Cycle
Raw life energy exists all over the world in small quantities. New lifeforms are created only when this ambient life energy coalesces together into a new living being. When a lifeform is hurt, the energy that forms them is locally disrupted, and extreme damage may cause complete dissociation. Lifeforms will also naturally dissociate after enough time has passed, but the slow rate of this process means their natural lifespan is generally very long. When a lifeform dissociates, their body loses the life energy needed to sustain it and disintegrates, leaving nothing behind. Communication
Instead of verbal communication, lifeforms speak with each other through vibrations of life energy. The physical shape of a lifeform influences the "frequency" through which it communicates, so similarly shaped beings can generally hear and understand each other more easily. Shape influences how lifeforms think as well as how they communicate: living things with very different shapes, especially ones from different categories, are likely to think in ways that are completely alien to each other. Geography
The whole of space and the world within it are set within a hexagonal pillar, bounded at the top by sky and the bottom by stone. The edges of space are seamlessly connected, and any object travelling in one direction for long enough would eventually return to its starting point: the largest river, stretching all the way from one end of the world to the other, flows infinitely. The world's surface is vast and its landscape is varied, ranging from lush hills and vast rivers to barren wastelands. There are also many more unusal locations: mysterious abandoned structures, floating crystal islands, and mountain-sized lifeforms are just a few examples.
Wide varieties of Flora cover much of the world's surface. Each location's unique mixture of elemental energies has a subtle influence on their traits and appearance. Towns and other communities of Forma are also common, each with their own culture and customs; settlements can vary in size, but nearly all have a strong sense of community. Fauna are rarer but can also be found all across the world, sometimes even in small communities of their own. They are often the source of strange or mysterious occurences encountered by travelers.
The first image below shows the entirety of space, but the story of Outcasts takes place in only one small slice of this larger world. The second image is a magnified map of this region. Clicking on each point of interest will reveal more info about that location.
